Why Massage?

It’s time to view massage as a tool to improve your health (backed by research), rather than a luxury indulgence. Brent A. Bauer, M.D., director of the complementary and integrative medicine program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota states there are over 1,000 studies and published reports that offer scientific evidence on the positive health effects of massage therapy. There are certainly direct effects like changes at the muscular level and pain pathways and a reduction in stress hormones, such as cortisol. But there are also indirect effects like being in a comfortable setting and a compassionate human presence that can all lead to profound effects on our stress levels and emotional state.

Fun Facts:

Massage can help reduce stress hormone levels including cortisol and adrenocorticotropin. High stress hormone levels result in a lower libido. Massage also enhances your “feel good” hormones – oxytocin and serotonin. So, massage can improve your sex life!

Massage dates back over 3,000 years to Ancient China

Up to 91% of people agree that professional massages can be effective in reducing pain
